KVK Conducts Maternal Nutrition Workshop

ICAR-KVK North & Middle Andaman conducted a three-day training on maternal nutrition and wellness for Anganwadi Workers, with a focus on diet, community counseling, and locally available nutritious foods. The programme, held from November 17 to 19, 2025, aimed to build capacity among extension functionaries and Anganwadi Workers of Basantipur Gram Panchayat, to strengthen frontline nutrition awareness and improve maternal health outcomes in rural and tribal communities.

“The training aims to strengthen community-level support systems for maternal nutrition and engage frontline workers to improve long-term health indicators for mothers and children in remote regions.”

The inaugural session featured Yatharth Sharma, SMS (Home Science), who emphasized the importance of community-level support systems for maternal nutrition and the need for stronger engagement by frontline workers to enhance health indicators in remote regions. Manoj Kumar, In-charge, ICAR-KVK N&M Andaman, urged participants to utilize the training to intensify nutrition awareness campaigns in their field areas, highlighting maternal nutrition as a priority area for KVK and the necessity of coordinated, community-level efforts to address nutritional gaps. Triveni Manju, GDMO (Ayurveda), PHC Billyground, attended the session as Chief Guest.

Overall, the programme sought to bolster knowledge among frontline personnel, enabling them to spread nutrition awareness and propagate best practices for maternal health within Basantipur and neighboring communities.
