Liberal senator Sarah Henderson expressed doubt about the Coalition's ability to recover under Sussan Ley's leadership. Speaking ahead of a crucial party meeting on net-zero emissions targets, Henderson admitted she could no longer support the current direction of the party.
“I do have to say really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support,”
Henderson told Sky News on Friday, adding,
“But I do believe in miracles.”
When asked if the party could improve with Ley in charge, Henderson paused before stating she could not back the current state of affairs.
“I'm not in the business of throwing anyone under the bus, I'm stating the bleeding obvious, we are in a dire situation,”
she explained.
“The infighting has been terrible and I'm terribly sorry about what's been going on in the Liberal Party.”
After Ley assumed the Liberal leadership and removed Henderson from the shadow cabinet, the senator acknowledged Ley's effort to bring the party together by calling multiple meetings as a "significant step forward" toward solidifying policy on energy and climate.
Senator Henderson critically views Sussan Ley’s leadership yet remains hopeful for change, highlighting ongoing party divisions ahead of key policy decisions.
