On Thursday, a White House press conference was briefly disrupted when a man fainted in the Oval Office. President Donald Trump was announcing a new deal with major pharmaceutical companies to reduce the cost of obesity medications at the time the incident occurred.
A video of the collapse quickly spread on social media. Independent journalist Eric Daugherty, who shared the clip, wrote:
“A man just passed out during President Trump’s Oval Office announcement. Oz SPRUNG into action and assisted him.”
He later added:
“Pray for him.”
Many users online also offered prayers and concern for the man’s health after the live feed was cut short.
Soon after, online reports identified the person as Gordon Findlay, who was alleged to be a Novo Nordisk executive. One social media post claimed:
“BREAKING: Novo Nordisk executive Gordon Findlay collapses during Trump's announcement in Oval Office, announcement suspended.”
However, this information turned out to be incorrect.
Novo Nordisk later released a statement clarifying that the individual was not affiliated with the company. They stated:
“CEO Mike Doustdar and EVP, US Operations, Dave Moore were the only two Novo Nordisk representatives in the Oval Office. We hope the gentleman who suffered a medical incident today is okay.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the person who fainted was a representative from another company participating in the Oval Office event. She said:
“During the Most Favored Nations Oval Office Announcement, a representative with one of the companies fainted.”
The White House incident was not linked to Novo Nordisk, as the company confirmed its executives were unharmed and clarified the identity rumors surrounding the man who fainted.
