The Los Angeles Lakers continued their strong start to the 2025-26 season with a narrow 118-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, marking their fifth consecutive win. While Luka Doncic led the team in scoring and playmaking once again, his defensive impact caught everyone by surprise, especially teammate Marcus Smart.
Smart contributed significantly with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block. He was perfect from the free-throw line, making all 10 attempts over 34 minutes on the court.
"Five steals, two blocks… what?!” Smart exclaimed. “Luka! Five steals, two blocks, baby I see you! DPOY baby!"
A video shared by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on X showed Smart’s initial disbelief, quickly turning into praise and celebration upon hearing about Doncic’s defensive stat line.
At 26 years old, Luka put up one of his most memorable defensive games in addition to his offensive output, impressing fans, teammates, and commentators alike.
