Hilary Duff Shares Insights on Her 'Lizzie McGuire' Era

Hilary Duff spoke about her time on the hit Disney Channel show Lizzie McGuire and revealed what happened to her character Lizzie and Gordo after the series during an appearance on the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane on November 5.

Reflecting on the Show’s Success

Duff, now 38, fondly recalled her experience working on the show from 2001 to 2004. She described it as an incredible time, highlighting that Lizzie McGuire broke all previous Disney Channel records, influencing how future series were developed.

“I loved it. I had the best time.”

The Disney Channel Production Formula

Hilary explained the production approach for Disney Channel shows during that period, noting a set formula on episode counts and budgets.

“They just ordered a certain amount of episodes, and that was what they did for their shows. They spent this amount of money, they had this amount of order, and they stuck to that formula for all of those shows,”

she said. She added that for one year they filmed about 30 episodes, and the next year around 35.

The Fate of Lizzie and Gordo

Regarding the show's post-series storyline, Duff suggested that Lizzie and Gordo didn’t end up together romantically, but might have shared an "almost thing."

“I think they had maybe an almost thing post,”

she said and added that in her mind, Lizzie eventually had a romantic connection with Ethan Craft, played by Clayton Snyder.

“In my mind, I like to think she had a thing with Ethan Craft [Clayton Snyder], finally.”

She also noted that Gordo remains a supportive figure for Lizzie.

“Gordo is always there to pick up her pieces still.”
