Toronto is set to experience winter-like conditions this week, including early sunsets, frigid temperatures, and powerful winds. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) for Wednesday, warning of wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h this afternoon.
Winds from the southwest are currently blowing at 30 to 50 km/h. However, a cold front moving through the GTA between 2 and 3 p.m. will shift winds to come from the northwest, increasing gust speeds to around 70 km/h with possible peaks of up to 80 km/h.
"People [who] are walking in areas where there could be tree branches that could be weakened, and things of that nature, just to be more alert and aware of their surroundings," said Environment Canada on Wednesday.
Gusty winds could potentially bring down power lines or trees, causing outages. Toronto Hydro is actively monitoring the situation and preparing to address any disruptions. Customers are encouraged to stay informed and visit the Outage Hub for assistance.
