The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday has immense pressure on its shoulders. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) remains a global force, it hasn't captured audiences with the same intensity as before. The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned just over $500 million—solid but modest by Marvel standards. Anticipation builds around the fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, and then, the MCU’s major crossover event arrives.
Avengers: Doomsday faced several challenges, including a pivot from Jonathan Majors as the main villain, a change in directors, the addition of multiple Fox-era X-Men characters, and Robert Downey Jr.’s surprising return as Doctor Doom, likely for a hefty sum. On top of this, Kevin Feige has hinted at a major reboot following the next two Avengers films, making this movie a significant finale for the current MCU phase.
“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them,” Simu Liu said in a recent ScreenRant interview. “It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”
Liu highlights the vast ensemble cast and the emotional connection the film conveys, suggesting it will deliver heartfelt moments alongside its spectacle.
Avengers: Doomsday is poised to be a grand, emotionally resonant farewell to the current MCU era, amplified by Simu Liu’s enthusiasm about its star-studded cast and homage to the superhero genre.
