Jennifer Lawrence recently shared how her challenging postpartum experience after her second child influenced her portrayal in the film Die My Love. At 35, the actress spoke exclusively with PEOPLE during the New York City premiere of the movie.
In the film, Lawrence plays a new mother struggling with the demands of motherhood. She revealed that her own life experiences helped her bring authenticity to the role.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby],” Lawrence said. “I think that just added another layer.”
She further explained that while one doesn’t need to be a parent to play one, understanding what a newborn requires enriched her performance:
“Having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.”
“I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she told The New Yorker about her baby.
