The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to assess the trade market for forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.
Robertson has recorded two goals and four points in 10 games this season. He has experienced a varied role, moving between the first line and occasionally being a healthy scratch during the opening month. In Wednesday’s game, a defeat against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Robertson logged a season-high 17:22 of ice time, starting alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann, filling in for the injured William Nylander.
Kampf, 30, has spent this season mostly in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies, after being waived before the NHL season began. He has one assist in four games and carries a cap hit of $2.4 million through next season, with $1.25 million counting against Toronto’s cap while he is in the AHL.
“We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson," Dreger stated Thursday on Insider Trading.
“Now, the veteran David Kampf, who’s in the American Hockey League, it’s more about just getting off the money. For Nick Robertson, this guy is a bottom-six, he’s a top-six, he’s in the press box, he’s scoring goals. He’s a young guy who the Toronto Maple Leafs have time for and they are in no rush to move him out.
“If they were to get the right sort of return for Nick Robertson, it would be a player of a similar age.”
The Maple Leafs are open to trading Kampf mainly to free cap space, while Robertson remains a flexible young talent they prefer to keep unless the return matches his potential.
Toronto’s management carefully balances cap considerations with developmental priorities, showing patience with Robertson while seeking practical moves involving Kampf.
