Ethan Hawke is still enjoying the experience of collaborating with Taylor Swift. During his first visit to Miami on November 2, he received the Miami Film Festival’s Variety Virtuoso Award and reflected on his career in a discussion with Variety co–editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.
Hawke reminisced about working alongside Hollywood legends such as Robert De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ben Stiller, and Julia Stiles. However, he brightened particularly when recalling his reunion with his Dead Poet’s Society co-star Josh Charles for Swift’s music video “Fortnight,” which also featured Post Malone.
The project, both written and directed by Taylor Swift, was initiated thanks to Hawke’s daughter, Maya Hawke. Ethan shared how Maya unexpectedly reached out to him:
“My daughter is creating opportunities in my life. I get a text from my daughter saying ‘Hey dad, Taylor Swift wants your number.’ So I guess they met. And anyway, Taylor Swift is a ‘Dead Poet’s Society’ fan, and so, hell, I’ll take what I can get.”
Hawke expressed admiration for Swift’s creative vision:
“That woman is incredible. She’s a force of nature.”
His remarks came as Taylor Swift continues to make waves with music, recently releasing a fresh version of her No. 1 hit from The Life of a Showgirl.
Ethan Hawke warmly recalls collaborating with Taylor Swift, highlighting her talent and the role his daughter played in bringing them together for a memorable music video project.
