Multiple individuals reportedly became ill after a suspicious package containing white powder and political materials was delivered to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, near Washington, DC.
The incident occurred Thursday when a person at the Air National Guard Readiness Center received and opened the delivery. The package held an unidentified white substance, prompting immediate safety measures.
“As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,”
reported CNN, citing a statement from Joint Base Andrews.
Base emergency teams responded promptly and determined there was no immediate threat. The site has since been handed over to the Office of Special Investigations for further review. A HAZMAT team performed an initial field test which found no hazardous materials, though several individuals were taken to Malcolm Grove Medical Center for evaluation.
Authorities continue investigating both the substance and the political propaganda reportedly enclosed within the parcel. No details regarding the health status of those exposed or the content of the propaganda have yet been released.
