A suspicious package containing white powder was delivered to a US military base in Maryland, resulting in several people falling ill and requiring hospitalization, CNN reported.
After an individual opened the package, a building and its connecting structure on the base were evacuated as a precaution. Authorities established a cordon around the area to ensure safety, according to a Joint Base Andrews statement shared by CNN.
Several affected individuals were taken to the Malcolm Grow Medical Center located on the base. The severity of their conditions has not been disclosed.
Joint Base Andrews, near Washington, DC, is known as the home base for Air Force One, the official aircraft used by the President of the United States.
