Scotiabank Commits J$165 Million to Hurricane Relief Efforts

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Scotiabank has pledged CAD$400,000 (about J$48 million) to aid relief and rebuilding efforts following the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The Scotiabank Foundation is also committing another J$100 million to support Jamaica’s recovery and bolster the island’s economic resilience.

These funds will be allocated to trusted organizations actively assisting affected families and communities in Jamaica’s rebuilding process.

Additionally, Scotia Group employees are arranging care package donations valued near J$12 million for impacted communities, with the bank promising to match staff donations up to CAD$50,000 (J$6 million).

Altogether, Scotiabank's total initial financial commitment towards national recovery stands at approximately J$165 million.

Audrey Tugwell Henry, President and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica, expressed her concern: "The devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa has been immense, with many of our clients, employees, and communities facing significant losses."
