Cloud gaming continues to thrive despite the decline of Google's Stadia project. Sony has enhanced its PlayStation Portal handheld by enabling cloud gaming access for all users.
The PlayStation Portal is a handheld device similar in concept to the Steam Deck, but it does not operate independently. Instead, it streams games from a connected PlayStation 5 console. To increase the device's versatility, Sony has now integrated cloud gaming capabilities.
Sony announced, “Starting today, all PlayStation Portal owners will be able to use cloud gaming on the handheld, accessing select digital PS5 games from their own library without needing Remote Play.”
Subscription Note: Cloud gaming access on the PlayStation Portal requires an $18/month subscription.
These updates make the PlayStation Portal a more flexible device by tapping into Sony’s cloud gaming ecosystem.
Author's summary: Sony’s PlayStation Portal now supports cloud gaming for $18/month, letting users stream PS5 games without a console connection and adding several new features.
