Rosalía on Meeting Patti Smith
Following the release of her new album Lux, Spanish pop star Rosalía shared her experience of meeting her musical icon, Patti Smith. She described the encounter as “beautiful.”
Rosalía met Patti Smith at the famous Electric Lady Studios in New York, a moment she cherished deeply. The connection was arranged by Lee Foster, who manages the studio. Speaking on BBC 6 Music, Rosalía recalled the special day with excitement.
“So we met because he wanted us to meet.”
Rosalía described walking down the stairs in a white dress, feeling a mix of nervousness and thrill, thinking, “Oh my God, I don’t want to make Patti Smith wait!”
“And I just arrive, and she was so… she had so much light in her face in her eyes in her smile and I couldn’t believe… and she just pointed out the dress I remember she said, ‘I love your dress.’”
The two talked about Rosalía’s music, including the song ‘La Yagular’ from Lux, which features a 1976 Patti Smith recording where she says:
“Break on through to the other side. Going through one door isn’t enough, a million doors aren’t enough.”
Rosalía called the meeting one of the most beautiful experiences, emphasizing her deep admiration for Patti Smith.
