Gabagool & Pickleball: Soprano’s Star Joins CCARC Event

NEW BRITAIN — Last weekend, the New Britain CCARC hosted a lively pickleball event at Club Pickleball inside the Meriden Mall. More than a dozen participants, including individuals with special needs of all ages, enjoyed the morning filled with fun and exercise. The club provided courts and equipment for the event.

The Center for Community Resources, located on Slater Road, serves those with intellectual and physical disabilities across the surrounding areas. The nonprofit organization is nearing its 80th year of service, supporting people of all ages and genders.

Anthony Gionfriddo, director of the Beautiful Lives Project, organized the event and welcomed participants with smiles and enthusiasm.

“What a fantastic morning as these folks have a chance to be part of this sport, and you can see the energy they all have and can’t wait to get on the courts. This is their time to shine, look at those smiles,” said Gionfriddo.

Adding excitement to the day, special guest Joseph R. Gannascoli, known for his role as Vito on The Sopranos, joined as an instructor. He shared his pickleball skills with the group and stayed for a meet and greet with photo signings afterward.

This event combined community support, sports, and celebrity presence to create an uplifting experience for all involved.
