A misty Friday morning in Calgary transformed into a light snowfall, though meteorologists say it will not linger for long. The weather change began when fog blanketed the city under a visibility advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
Snow started falling in downtown Calgary around 8:30 a.m., as flakes from the north drifted southward. ECCC had cautioned about poor visibility and the potential for rain, snow, or freezing rain.
“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” said 660 NewsRadio meteorologist Kevin Stanfield.
“Our high today hits 3°C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too.”
Motorists across the city are urged to drive carefully as conditions may remain slippery during the transition from fog to snow. For ongoing updates, residents can listen to 660 NewsRadio or CityNews 24/7 for traffic and weather reports.
Calgary saw fog turn into morning snow on Friday, but mild temperatures are expected to melt the flakes quickly and restore clear roads within hours.
