Drugs mule Lindsay Sandiford could walk straight BACK into jail

Drugs Mule Lindsay Sandiford Faces Possible Return to Prison

Yesterday, 69-year-old grandmother Lindsay Sandiford was seen in a wheelchair as she left Kerobokan Prison in Bali, where she had been incarcerated for smuggling £1.6 million worth of cocaine from Bangkok.

Indonesian officials have indicated Sandiford may go straight back to jail upon her return to the UK, following 12 years on death row for drug-related offences.

In response to questions about Sandiford's future in Britain, Indonesia's deputy minister for immigration and correctional coordination told the Mirror: "In England, she will remain in prison."

Britain's Foreign Office has not yet confirmed or denied this statement.

Departure from Bali and Return to Britain

Sandiford left her cell shortly after 2pm GMT alongside 35-year-old Shahab Shahabadi, another British inmate serving a life sentence for drug crimes. Both were briefly shown to local media before British diplomats took custody of them at the airport.

She wore a face mask and shielded herself from photographers as she was escorted to Denpasar International Airport, boarding a Qatar Airways flight to London via Doha.

Sandiford was originally publicly displayed at Denpasar Airport in 2012, dressed in orange prison clothes beside a table stacked with cocaine.

Summary

Lindsay Sandiford’s case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by international drug convicts, as her release from Indonesia may lead directly to imprisonment upon arrival in the UK.
