After 21 years with Nine News, Livinia Nixon has announced her departure from the newsroom. She will, however, continue her involvement with the network through the lifestyle programs Postcards and Getaway.
“After two decades in the 9Newsroom, I’ve made the difficult decision to step back from my current role,” she shared on Instagram. “The juggle of modern life is unrelenting and I need to spend more time with my boys.”
Nixon expressed deep gratitude to viewers for allowing her into their homes each evening and humorously acknowledged that her weather forecasts were not always perfect, noting, “that’s Melbourne for you!”
“I’m proud to be leaving on a high and grateful for the years spent with a wonderful News team. I’ll continue cheering for 9News from the sidelines.”
She also thanked Channel 9 for their support and understanding, confirming that she will remain with the network to film stories for Getaway and Postcards.
“As my boys said, ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’ My final weather report will be November 18. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
Nine’s National News Director, Hugh Nailon, praised Nixon’s contribution to the Melbourne newsroom.
“Livinia’s impact on 9News Melbourne has been immeasurable. She’s delivered the weather with warmth, expertise, and unmatched professionalism for two decades. We wholeheartedly support her decision to prioritize family and are thrilled she’ll remain with us on Getaway and Postcards.”
Livinia Nixon ends her long tenure at Nine News to focus on family while continuing lifestyle work with the network, leaving behind a respected and heartfelt legacy.
