AFLW: Biddell Reflects on Road to 75 Games as Crows Eye Finals Success

Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell will reach her 75th AFLW game this Sunday in the Crows’ elimination final against St Kilda. At 27 years old, Biddell has grown into a leadership role, embracing her voice both on and off the field.

Leadership Journey

Being voted into the leadership group for the first time at the start of this season was a significant milestone for Biddell. She described it as “pretty special” to be recognized by her peers.

“That was pretty special to be announced as part of the leadership group this year, especially to be voted in by your peers, it’s very nice.”

Biddell explained how leadership was something she actively worked on over the years, especially as she became one of the more experienced players.

“I had to work really hard on that part of my game, especially when I started to become one of the more experienced players. It’s definitely been challenging. I’m not really the loudest person, so I think it was just developing that voice and communication that I really had to build on.”

Playing Career and Position Change

Originally drafted as a forward in the 2019 AFLW Draft, Biddell struggled to secure a consistent spot in the strong Crows side. She was in and out of the team until a switch from forward to defense in 2022 helped solidify her position.

Now a key player in the Crows’ defensive unit, Biddell’s journey to 75 games reflects her adaptation and perseverance.
