Millions of residents along Australia’s east coast are preparing for another weekend of intense storms and heavy rain after a turbulent start to the storm season. Sydney is expected to experience late thunderstorms and strong winds on both Friday and Saturday, following unusually warm daytime temperatures.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonathon Howe stated that much of southeastern Australia will face “unsettled days” as a cold front continues to develop over Friday and Saturday.
“Today (Friday) we are looking at the possibility of thunderstorms all the way from southern Victoria across to South Australia and up into northern parts of NSW,” said Mr Howe.
According to Howe, parts of northern Victoria and northwestern New South Wales could experience damaging wind gusts by Friday afternoon. Thunderstorms remain possible in major cities such as Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, and Sydney.
“Severe thunderstorms are possible through the day for the northwestern slopes of NSW, into southern inland Queensland and a large swath across Central Australia,” he said.
“For these areas, we could see damaging wind gusts with thunderstorms as we head into Saturday,” added Howe.
Forecasters warn of widespread thunderstorms, damaging winds, and potential flooding across multiple eastern states as storm season continues to intensify.
