Vehicle Attack in France Leaves 10 Injured, 4 Critically
A 35-year-old man intentionally drove his car into pedestrians and cyclists on Île d’Oléron, injuring ten people, including four who remain in critical condition. The assault happened around 8:45 a.m. between Dolus-d’Oléron and Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron.
Witnesses reported the driver shouting “Allahu Akbar” before accelerating into the crowd.
After the collision, the suspect attempted to set his car on fire using gas cylinders but was quickly subdued by police with a taser and taken into custody without further resistance.
“He was neutralized using an electric pulse weapon,” the prosecutor confirmed.
Authorities said the man was already known to them for minor thefts but was not on the ‘S’ file, a national watchlist for high-risk individuals. Police have opened an investigation into attempted murder with terrorist intent.
