Selected sixth overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, Duncan McGuire quickly established himself as Orlando City’s leading striker during his rookie season. His strong debut even attracted an offer from Blackburn Rovers, but a paperwork issue kept him in Orlando — a fortunate outcome for the Lions.
In 2024, McGuire delivered an impressive run with 10 goals and three assists, earning a renewed contract. However, a shoulder injury late in the playoffs led to off-season surgery and delayed his 2025 campaign. A second shoulder operation in June sidelined him again until late August.
Despite limited availability, McGuire featured in 18 regular-season matches, starting in six of them and playing a total of 726 minutes. Recovery time affected his form, yet he managed to contribute three goals and two assists.
“Blackburn’s loss was Orlando City’s gain during the 2024 season, as McGuire contributed 10 goals and three assists to the cause.”
Although injuries disrupted his progress, McGuire remained an important squad player, showing strong work ethic and resilience as he battled back to form for Orlando City.
Author’s summary: Duncan McGuire’s 2025 season reflected resilience through injury challenges, ending with solid contributions despite restricted playtime and two shoulder surgeries.
