Hilary Duff recently shared a surprising memory from her teenage years when tabloids falsely claimed she carried a condom in her see-through purse. She addressed this during the latest episode of the Therapuss podcast with host Jake Shane.
At about 17 years old, Duff was photographed by paparazzi walking in front of a Los Angeles store with a popular transparent “jelly” bag. This sparked rumors that she was carrying something inappropriate.
“I still remember feeling like, ‘I’m in trouble. I did something bad,’ and I was just a normal age,” she said.
According to People, the object in her bag was likely a valet ticket or another harmless square of paper, but the story quickly escalated.
“It was a square piece of paper in my bag, and all of a sudden I got a phone call from my mom. She was like, ‘Is there a condom in your bag?’” Duff recalled.
Duff noted how the media at that time seemed to focus on catching young celebrities doing something wrong, especially during their adolescence.
This discussion comes just before the November 6 release of Duff’s new single, Mature, her first original music in ten years.
