Jake Shane, the host of “Therapuss,” is set to star in and executive produce a new Hulu comedy inspired by his own life. The TikTok sensation previously appeared in the latest season of “Hacks” as a social media manager and will now portray a fictionalized version of himself in this upcoming project from 20th Television.
The half-hour pilot is co-written by Shane, Genevieve Aniello (known for “Hacks” and “High Potential”), and “Saturday Night Live” alum Paul Briganti, who will also direct and executive produce. Alec Berg and Amy Solomon will serve as executive producers under their overall deal with 20th Television.
“The series follows Shane and his best friends as they navigate the chaotic world of online fame, the strain it puts on their friendships, and the tension it brings to their suburban neighborhood.”
This concept mirrors Shane’s real experiences, often spotlighted in his social media life and public appearances.
Shane’s rise began on TikTok, where his humor and personality drew a large following. He later launched his podcast “Therapuss with Jake Shane” in January 2024, which quickly climbed the Spotify and Apple Podcasts charts.
He frequently shares highlights from his everyday life, from training sessions at the Alo gym with Tate McRae and Glen Powell to attending high-profile weddings such as that of Sophia Richie Grainge. His podcast has featured celebrity guests including Selena Gomez, Lorde, Kerry Washington, Charli XCX, Lea Michele, and Glen Powell.
Author’s summary: Jake Shane transitions from viral TikTok fame to television, turning his real-life experiences and friendships into a Hulu comedy about modern celebrity culture.
