Photos of the brown leather Ka-Bar knife sheath have been made public for the first time among over 2,300 pages of evidence released by Idaho State Police. This sheath played a pivotal role in identifying Bryan Kohberger as the murderer of four University of Idaho students.
Kohberger left the sheath behind at the crime scene shortly after the killings on November 13, 2022. The victims were Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, all stabbed to death in the early hours that day.
The sheath, discovered at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho, contained DNA that genetic genealogy linked directly to Kohberger, a 30-year-old criminology PhD student. This evidence was fundamental in pinpointing him as the suspect.
Photos show the sheath is under 15 inches long, adorned with a USMC military seal.
The release of these photos reveals how forensic evidence traced back to Kohberger, leading to his connection with the murders through the distinctive Ka-Bar knife sheath he left behind.
Author's note: This case underscores how seemingly small pieces of evidence, like a knife sheath, can unravel complex criminal investigations.
