The upcoming film Wicked: For Good includes two brand-new original songs alongside beloved numbers from the second act of the Broadway musical.
The sequel picks up after Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, soars into “Defying Gravity” upon discovering with her friend Glinda, portrayed by Ariana Grande, that the Wizard, performed by Jeff Goldblum, is a fraud. The new film continues their story, exploring their paths with fresh musical depth.
“Both witches are trying to find their way home. Both of these songs are about how to do that, and it’s questions that I’ve always wanted to hear from them in the stage show, but never got to. We get to take our time and explore those questions.”
— Jon M. Chu, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, September 2025
Both of the new songs were written by Stephen Schwartz, the composer of the original Broadway score. Fans were treated to a preview of the songs during NBC’s Wicked: One Wonderful Night special, ahead of the film’s November 2025 premiere.
