The Pitt women's basketball team lost their home opener on Tuesday night, falling 68-60 to Drexel at the Petersen Events Center.
Four players made their first collegiate starts for Pitt: Mikayla Johnson, transfers Angel Jones and Fatima Diakhate, along with Jayda Queeley and Megan Hollingsworth.
Six Panthers scored in the opening quarter, giving Pitt a 14-12 lead after the first 10 minutes. Drexel bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Pitt 18-13 to take a 30-27 halftime lead.
Pitt rallied in the third quarter, scoring 22 points to tie the game at 49 heading into the final period. Both teams exchanged baskets late in the game, but a clutch three-pointer by Drexel gave the Dragons a five-point lead. Drexel then went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in the last 21 seconds to secure the victory.

Despite a strong effort and multiple first-time starters, Pitt was unable to overcome Drexel's late-game execution in their opening home game.
