Pacers Struggle But Stay Positive

Pacers forward Pascal Siakam maintains a positive outlook despite an overwhelming wave of injuries.

"It's almost laughable," Siakam said, via Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star. "As bad as it’s getting, I know there’s going to be another side of it."

Indiana currently relies on a patchwork lineup. Aaron Nesmith is attempting five more shots per game than ever before in his career, while Jarace Walker's shot attempts have climbed from 4.8 as a rookie to 12.6 this season.

Coach Rick Carlisle commented, "We have a lot of guys playing unusual positions. But the spirit is good."

Indiana's record is 1-6, showing clear struggles, but the team remains determined. For perspective, last season they began 11-15 and still pushed through to Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Russell Westbrook’s Return to Denver

Russell Westbrook returned to Denver and delivered a massive performance, nearly taking over the game with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. However, the Nuggets lost 130–124.

"They didn’t want me back," Westbrook said.

After signing a minimum deal with the Nuggets last summer, Westbrook appeared in 75 regular-season games and contributed during the playoffs. He claimed that once his player option came up, the Nuggets made it clear they did not want him to exercise it.

Author’s Summary

The Pacers remain optimistic despite injuries, while Westbrook reflects on his tough Denver exit following a standout game and lack of support during contract talks.
