UNLV football coach Dan Mullen expressed a serious tone during his Monday press conference. Unlike usual, there were no jokes or laughter. Mullen is still processing the Rebels’ 40-35 loss at home against New Mexico. Although the team gave up 532 yards on defense and missed tackles, those issues don’t bother him as much as the missed opportunity to secure a win in the final minutes.
“That hurts, as a team,” Mullen said on Monday. “It’s our focus to get back into making sure we’re performing better, and when we have opportunities to make things happen, to win games, we’re doing things to win games.”
The Rebels fought hard to reduce New Mexico's lead to just one point with about six minutes left. However, the defense conceded a touchdown run with under three minutes remaining, followed by an unsuccessful final drive on offense. Despite this setback, Mullen emphasized that there is still much football left to play. UNLV (6-2, 2-2 MWC) aims to keep their Mountain West title hopes alive with a victory at Colorado State (2-6, 1-3) this Saturday.
Quarterback Anthony Colandrea continues to impress as one of the Mountain West’s top quarterbacks. In the game against New Mexico, he completed 36 of 46 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating his pivotal role in the team’s offense.
Summary: Coach Mullen remains focused on improving the team’s performance and seizing opportunities as UNLV fights to stay competitive in the Mountain West with quarterback Colandrea leading the offense.
