Brisbane Roar forward Justin Vidic insists he has nothing to prove to his former team, Newcastle Jets, when they meet on Sunday. However, he remains determined to demonstrate his quality after being released by the club last season.
Vidic was let go by Newcastle after a modest record of one goal in 13 A-League appearances, most of them as a substitute. Following Mark Milligan’s appointment as head coach, the 21-year-old forward was not offered a new contract.
Facing uncertainty about his career, Vidic seized a trial opportunity with Brisbane Roar. His dedication during that stint earned him a two-year deal, fitting well with the club’s tough and straightforward playing style guided by coach Michael Valkanis.
“These things happen for a reason,” said Vidic before the match at Sunshine Coast Stadium. “I’m sure I’ll show my quality. I don’t think I have anything to prove to them. They know what I’m capable of, and there are lots of people at the club I still speak to and stay close with.”
Vidic has started in two of the Roar’s first three matches this season and opened his goal tally in their 2-1 loss to Wellington last month.
“Starting in our past two games has been good for me,” said the young striker.
After being released by Newcastle, Justin Vidic revitalized his career with Brisbane Roar, eager to showcase his skill and confidence against his former club.
