Defender Confident Jets Will Stand Up Against Bully Boys

DANIEL Wilmering insists the Newcastle Jets will stick to their style of play but knows matching the physicality of the Brisbane Roar is essential to securing three points at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday.

The Roar have built a reputation as the A-League's bully boys, known for their physical battles and determination to overpower opponents. With two clean sheets in three rounds, they have been tough to break down, guided by Michael Valkanis, one of the toughest centre-backs in A-League history.

"They are a very physical side and will be up for it," Wilmering said. "We have to earn the right to play. We have to match the intensity of any team. If you lose the 50-50s and you are not in the contest, it is hard to play."

The Jets previously experienced the Roar's physical edge during a 3-1 loss in a pre-season friendly in Lismore.

"It was a very physical and intense game," Wilmering recalled. "We want to play our brand of football. If there are 50-50s to be won, we have to win them."

Wilmering's focus is clear: to compete fiercely in every contest and uphold their style while embracing the challenge of Brisbane's toughness.

Author’s summary: Daniel Wilmering emphasizes the Newcastle Jets' need to match Brisbane Roar's physical intensity while maintaining their style to secure victory.
