A McDonalds branch located along the busy Newmarket Road in Cambridge has applied to extend its opening hours from 7am–11pm to 6am–11pm every day. This request marks the third attempt after two previous refusals.
Savills, representing McDonalds, submitted the application emphasizing that the proposed earlier opening hour would not cause an unacceptable impact on nearby residents.
“This application simply seeks to extend the trading hours by an additional hour from that which is currently approved. We therefore anticipate that the proposal is entirely acceptable in terms of the extra hour of operation in the early morning trading period as no complaints have been received.”
The letter also highlighted that other local businesses have varying operating hours; for instance, Papa Johns operates until 3am daily.
According to Savills, most customers visit during the early morning hours. They also noted potential economic benefits tied to opening earlier, suggesting the change could support the local economy.
McDonalds and its partners provide special offers and promotions to community members, maintaining an ongoing engagement with the local area.
Author’s summary: The McDonalds on Newmarket Road seeks to open an hour earlier daily, aiming to boost business without negatively affecting residents, following previous unsuccessful attempts.
