Wirral will mark Remembrance Sunday with a borough-wide pause for reflection as residents honour the fallen at services held across the community on Sunday, 9 November.
The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, will lead the Civic Service at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, beginning at 10:55 a.m. A two-minute silence will follow at 11 a.m., observed in remembrance of those who gave their lives in service.
“The Service of Remembrance will be conducted by Reverend Paul Bentley, Vicar of Birkenhead Priory Parish and Rural Dean of Birkenhead.”
Readings and blessings will also be offered by The Right Reverend Julie Conalty, Bishop of Birkenhead, and Reverend Debbie Wilkinson, Wirral Waters Mission Lead.
The Mayor will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of the people of Wirral. Deputy Lieutenant Sue Higginson OBE DL will lay one on behalf of His Majesty The King. They will be joined by representatives from Wirral Council, the armed forces, civic organizations, and families of servicemen who lost their lives in recent conflicts.
Following the service, the Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant will take the salute at a march past led by the 107 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers. After the parade leaves Hamilton Square, members of the public are invited to place their own tributes at the Cenotaph.
A downloadable copy of the Birkenhead service sheet is available on the Council’s website.
The community of Wirral will unite in Birkenhead on Remembrance Sunday to honour those who sacrificed their lives, with services, wreath-laying, and public tributes marking the solemn occasion.
