Kia's popular SUV is getting a fresh but peculiar redesign. The brand’s recent design language has been bold, and the updated Telluride continues that trend, though not without raising a few eyebrows.
It’s always a thrill for automotive writers to receive images of a yet-unseen model. This time, the surprise comes from Kia’s next-generation Telluride, which showcases the automaker’s expressive design approach. Seeing it for the first time was unsettling, and that impression hasn’t entirely faded.
Kia shared renders of the new SUV in the X-Pro and SXP trims, both making a strong visual statement. The X-Pro version stands out with a rugged matte-black front that stretches from the bumper’s bottom up to the hood’s edge, giving the vehicle a stark and bold look.
What feels unconventional is how wide this section extends, encroaching into the headlight area. The headlights are outlined by amber daytime running lights, yet the main projectors are placed unusually—tucked into vertical slots beside the inner DRLs, near the grille’s edges. This design choice leaves the car appearing as if it’s missing part of its face, blending strength with strangeness.
“These renders Kia has shared show the new SUV in X-Pro and SXP guise, and they certainly leave an impression.”
The redesigned 2027 Kia Telluride provokes mixed reactions, combining bold experimentation with design choices that make it both striking and oddly incomplete.
