Hollywood actor Jeff Goldblum has revealed he adopted a vegetarian lifestyle after reflecting on the animal cruelty themes in his new film, Wicked: For Good. Speaking on the British daytime talk show This Morning ahead of the European premiere on November 10th, Goldblum discussed how his role as the Wizard of Oz allowed him to explore deeper issues in the film.
“It’s changed me. I’m lucky. It’s uncommon that you get to be doing this over a period of time and get more fertile and juicy and interesting and relevant roles for yourself at this period of time. And working with John Chu – amazing. You know, after doing this movie, we talked about the animal cruelty. I stopped eating meat and poultry.”
Goldblum referenced the plot twist in the first film, where the Wizard is revealed to have silenced animals and planned to use magical monkeys for his own agenda. These themes are further explored in Wicked: For Good.
Reflecting on the upcoming festive season, Goldblum mentioned he may stick to vegetarian options for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He concluded, “But I’m happy. We need the world to work for everybody on Earth, and every creature too.”
