DALLAS — Wyatt Johnston scored just 28 seconds into a two-minute, five-on-three power play late in the second period, helping the Dallas Stars secure a 4-3 victory over the Mammoth on Friday night.
Johnston’s decisive goal came after a tightly contested first half that saw both teams exchange early chances but struggle to capitalize. Dallas took advantage of the critical power-play opportunity following two consecutive penalties against the Mammoth.
Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski also contributed goals for Dallas, while goaltender Jake Oettinger recorded 27 saves to fend off the late offensive push from the visiting team. Jamie Benn added two assists, continuing his strong performance as a playmaker this season.
For the Mammoth, Alex Newhook scored twice, keeping his team within striking distance throughout. Goalie Devon Levi stopped 31 shots but couldn’t hold back the Stars’ special teams late in the second period.
Dallas improved to 13-7-2 with the win, while the Mammoth fell to 10-9-3. The Stars begin a three-game road stretch next week, starting with a matchup in Nashville.
“We knew that power play was going to be key,” said Stars coach Peter DeBoer. “The guys executed perfectly at a critical moment of the game.”
