The Writers Guild of America East has urged its members to hold off on responding to a memo requested by Bari Weiss, the new editor-in-chief.
Weiss asked staff to submit a memo outlining their work hours and accomplishments by Tuesday, stating the goal was to gather views on "what's working; what's broken or substandard; and how we can be better."
"Please be blunt — it will help me greatly,"
she wrote. The union is seeking more information on the purpose of the memo before advising members on how to proceed.
This development signifies an early tension point between Weiss and the staff she is set to lead, following her takeover of CBS News after Paramount's $150 million acquisition of The Free Press.
