A man accused of murdering his girlfriend has given a statement to jurors claiming she stabbed herself in his mother's hot tub.

Aren Pearson, 41, testified that he saw Claire Leveque, 24, plunge a knife into herself at his mother's house in Sandness, Shetland, on February 11, 2024.

Pearson, a Canadian living with his mother in Shetland, stated that Miss Leveque had been drinking whisky before the incident.

He claimed her father had "200k" of money from "online investments" in Winnipeg.
