One man is dead and another is in custody after a family argument in west Phoenix turned deadly on Sunday night, authorities said.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, 31-year-old Brandon Alvarez was arrested for shooting and killing his stepfather, Jaunarius Moreno.
Alvarez faces second-degree murder charges for the fatal shooting, police said. Officers responded to a home near 39th and Maryland avenues for reports of a shooting around 7:35 p.m.
Alvarez called 911 operators and told them he shot his 57-year-old stepfather. Officers cleared the home and found Moreno in the backyard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded and pronounced Moreno dead on the scene.
