Minnesota carbon monoxide awareness campaign kicks off in Rochester

Minnesota Carbon Monoxide Awareness Campaign

Rochester is one of eight cities in Minnesota receiving free carbon monoxide alarms as part of a statewide awareness campaign.

The campaign is funded by federal funds secured by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and has been in development for decades.

Cheryl Burt's two youngest boys, Nicholas and Zachary, died in their sleep in 1996 after months of carbon monoxide exposure.

Since the tragedy, Burt has been a spokesperson for CO alarms, raising awareness about the dangers of the tasteless, odorless, and invisible gas.
