Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.

Rep.-elect Grijalva has not been sworn in three weeks after being elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District. In a letter to Johnson's office, Mayes threatened litigation if the ceremony is not scheduled by Thursday, before the end of the federal government shutdown.

Mayes announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results.

The ceremony is a necessary step in the election process, and Mayes is taking action to ensure it takes place. Arizona Gov. was present during the official canvas of the election results.
