Island Hoops Going from Strength to Strength
Island Hoops Basketball, founded by Dwajaneil Dorsett, Benjamin Clarke, Wendell Dean, and Jadyn Gomez, is becoming a prominent movement in Nassau's casual basketball community.
The initiative, started in 2025, provides a safe and competitive environment for players of all ages. According to Dorsett, the idea arose from concern over the decline of organized casual basketball in Nassau.
"I was tired of trying to find runs and couldn’t find much people to play with, it felt like the game was dying and guys weren’t really interested in playing because they couldn’t find any good runs in Nassau,"
said Dorsett. What began as outdoor sessions has evolved into a well-organised community staple.
