A Mi'kmaw Elder, Fred Sylliboy, reported being tasered by the RCMP outside his home in Eskasoni after refusing a breathalyzer test.
Sylliboy was stopped by police on October 10 near his residence on the Eskasoni First Nation in Unama'ki, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He questioned the officers about the reason for the stop, and they cited a report of an impaired driver.
“Why in the heck are you pulling me over for impaired driving? I never drank for 30 years, I don’t do drugs,”
Sylliboy stated, to which an officer replied that he was reported for impaired driving. A video recorded by a family member shows Sylliboy on the ground after allegedly being tasered the first time.
In the recording, Sylliboy can be heard saying,
“I don’t drink, you guys don’t understand at all, you guys have no understanding.”
