A power outage occurred in Juneau on Tuesday at 11 a.m. due to an issue with hydropower.
Alaska Electric Light & Power (AEL&P) switched to diesel back-up generation about an hour later and restored regular hydropower by 2 p.m.
“It’s possible, when we’ve had situations like that, that a tree branch comes into contact with the line and clears or wildlife comes in contact with the line and clears the line,”
said Debbie Driscoll, vice president of AEL&P. The cause of the outage, which occurred on a transmission line south of the city, is still unknown.
Recent power disruptions in North Douglas, caused by a squirrel, a tree, and an equipment issue, are unrelated to Tuesday’s outage.
