The spirits of historic Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, Georgia, still have much to say about the colorful and turbulent history of the region.
On a recent sunny morning, Retired State Senator George Hooks gave a tour of his beloved Oak Grove Cemetery, which included a short history of the people and pets who are buried there.
"We don’t really allow pets, but a few have slipped past over the years,"
says a smiling Hooks. Notable graves include one inscribed simply "Capt." and another enormous and oddly shaped grave belonging to Wright Brady (1808-1871).
