The Gardner Newman girls cross country team achieved a milestone by finishing third at the Division II state competition, marking their highest finish in program history.
Despite being a team mostly composed of first-year runners, the Mustangs demonstrated significant progress throughout the season.
"The first race was really tough, but you just kind of get used to it after a bunch of practices and races,"said eighth-grader Emma Clark.
Although the runners were not satisfied with their placement, head coach Denae Hill expressed pride in their accomplishment.
