In-field sedation could have prevented Humphrey's death: paramedics

Inquest into Thomas Humphrey Jr.'s Death

An inquest began into the death of Thomas Humphrey Jr., who died in a Chatham hospital in August 2019.

He died following an interaction with Chatham-Kent police officers called by paramedics to assist with a man in medical distress.

Paramedics suggest that in-field sedation could have prevented Humphrey's death.

The five-person jury has been advised that they are not there to determine guilt or assign blame, but rather to make recommendations to prevent this type of death in the future.

Humphrey, of Delaware Nation at Moraviantown heritage, died in the Chatham hospital on Aug. 6, 2019.

An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
