UVA Faculty Rejects Trump Administration's Compact for Academic Excellence

The Trump administration proposed an agreement to nine universities, including the University of Virginia, in exchange for preferential access to federal funding.

The agreement, termed a "compact for academic excellence," was met with opposition from UVA's student government and faculty members.

Faculty famously like to disagree, but not on this. I have never seen such unanimity among my colleagues.

According to Matthew Hedstrom, Associate Professor of American Studies and Religious Studies at UVA, the compact has several contentious terms, including barring schools from considering race, ethnicity, or gender in admissions and requiring SAT or ACT scores.

Author's summary: UVA faculty unanimously opposes Trump's academic compact.
