Unions Sue to Stop AI Surveillance Powering Trump’s Deportation Scheme

Three major labor unions are suing the federal government to stop a social media surveillance program designed to revoke visas and green cards of immigrants with "hostile attitudes" towards the government.

The program has allegedly suppressed free speech, targeting individuals, including graduate students, for expressing pro-Palestine views.

The First Amendment applies to everyone who lives in the U.S.

The lawsuit, filed by three civil liberties groups, challenges the AI-powered "catch and revoke" program, marking the first time the surveillance program itself has been targeted.

According to Lisa Femia, a lawyer with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, other lawsuits have challenged visa revocations, but this is a unique case.

The immigration system is being used against people with views the Trump administration dislikes, affecting individuals from pro-Palestine students to Charlie Kirk commenters.
